The 148th Belmont is on Saturday, and while it lost a little star power with the defection of CLASSIC EMPIRE, there is still a very interesting field of 12 signed on. IRISH WAR CRY has inherited the role of favoritism and set at 7-2. EPICHARIS is the unknown factor in the field, and may be a little low at 4-1. He didn’t get to New York long ago, and hasn’t raced since March in Dubai. LOOKIN AT LEE will be the only horse this year to compete in all three legs of the Triple Crown, and this may be his best shot to win. He does his best running through the lane, and should have plenty of that as the field has to traverse Big Sandy in the Test of a Champion at Belmont. PATCH drew poorly again after being saddled with the 20 hole in the Kentucky Derby, he is stuck with the outside 12 for the Belmont.
Post time for the Belmont is 4:37pm MST – or right after our 8th and final race on Saturday.
Stakes nominations are out for the next round of added money events at Northlands Park. All eyes will be on RUFFENUFF to see if she can stretch out to a mile in the Red Smith. While QUALITY LANE looks to pick up back to back wins in the JOHN PATRICK. For the boys, TROOPER JOHN will meet newcomer THE ALL BUTTON in the Ky Alta while ANNIE’S CANDY and KILLIN ME SMALLS will renew acquaintances and look to hold off a new track record holder in HEMLOCK CHANNEL in the Spangled Jimmy.
Those four stakes will go on June 16th and 17th.
Hope to see you here Friday night for Park After Dark!
