Snowflake and Snowshoe Series

Let’s have a look at the two year old series currently on at Northlands Park.

In the Snowshoe, two year old boys MYSTERY COZ and PEACE OUT POSSE came home victorious last weekend. MYSTERY COZ was sent off at 1/5 and did not disappoint winning off by more than 12 lengths. Leaving quickly from the rail, he was able to coast through fractions of 29, 59:4 and 1:29:1 with a final time of 1:59:1. He was never threatened in that one, but may have a significantly different trip in leg #2. In the opener on Saturday, MYSTERY COZ drew the outside, but will have some speed inside of him with PRESIDENT ELECT pulling the two hole. If that pair heat things up on the front end, CAPTAIN TERMINATOR could come late and make some noise. He has two races under his belt since a layoff and has finished smartly in his last two.

The other leg is the 4th, where PEACE OUT POSSE and YANKEE UP renew acquaintances. POSSE got the better trip from a stalking spot, while YANKEE UP was further back and had to wait before charging home in mid-stretch. With PRESIDENT ELECT going in the opener and having drawn the fence MORTGAGE MY VILLA could be the controlling speed. BLUE STAR TROOPER missed the first leg and hasn’t been seen since mid-August. TROOPER may need a tightener before showing his best.

In the Snowflake, TRUE HORIZON isn’t likely to offer the 4-1 she did when scoring last Saturday night. She drew well again for trainer/driver Gerry Hudon and should get an ideal trip. The big question is: does RUTHS CROWN ROYAL bounce back from her 4th as the 2/5 betting choice? She had the lead on her own, through reasonable fractions of 29:4/1:00:1/1:30:4 before coving the last quarter in 31:1 and finishing 4th. She won the consolation of the Super Finals with a similar trip, and may be worth a long look if she drifts up to 2-1 following her flop.

There are 9 races on both Friday and Saturday night with a first post of 6:30 p.m. Be sure to make plans to join us at the racetrack both days!

After the races on Saturday night, head to the Northlands Park Casino for your wild card chance to qualify for the ‘Hockey Night in Vegas’ Slot Tournament Finale.
