Matt’s Blog — Weekend Preview October 13

Lots of stakes action this weekend at Northlands Park Racetrack and Casino on both Friday and Saturday night. With divisions of the two and three year old girls on Friday night, the boys step up Saturday.

The first half of the $27,100 Stardust goes as the 3rd, and will be a showdown between RUTHS CROWN ROYAL, NOISY NORA and ROARING HOME. ‘NORA just missed last time out in stakes action to BEARCAT JOSI who headlines the 5th race. ‘JOSI has won three straight stakes events, and should be tough to top in this one as well. She will be a very short price in her effort for four in a row for trainer Doug Stout and driver Bill Tainsh.

CARDINAL RULE drops from the Northlands Filly Pace to land in the Alberta Marquis in the 6th, and should fit better with these. PICKLES ON TOP and NIGHTIME CHASE looks to be the most likely rivals to knock her off. The Northlands Filly Pace winner OUTLAW FIREBALL will be another short price on the card in the 8th after drawing the rail in the field of seven. The 9th is the last of the three legs of the Marquis and will be highlighted by the 3rd place finisher from the Filly Pace in STEADY BREEZE.

On Saturday there are three divisions of the Shooting Star, with the first of the trio going in the 2nd. PARADISE HILL drew ideally on the fence and should be tough to top for the Hennessy’s. The 4th is the next leg and it appears to be a little more wide open. SNAP TEST, JET JUICE and IT’S A GREAT WHITE all have big shots. In the 6th OUTLAW TRUE GRIT has never missed the exacta in his seven race career, and should be the one to beat again after a tough trip in the Horizon. CUSTARDS LASTSTAND seems to have had the lightbulb go on in his last three, and has a chance to knock off the favorite. The feature event of the evening will be the second half of the Maverick that features the impressive winner of the Western Canada Pacing Derby MATEO. He sped away that day, and could do so again. SENGA NITRO has been the runner up in his last four, and is a threat again to be right there as he always is.

Come on out and join us this weekend, 10 races Friday and 11 Saturday – first post both days 6:30pm.
